Health Risk Assessments (HRAs)

Health risk assessments (HRAs) are a good way to find and record a baseline of employee health when you are starting an employee wellness program - or when you want to assess the current state of health for your currently-running program.

According to some scholars, the first risk assessment vendors were the Asipu of the Tigris-Euphrates river valley around 3200 B.C. They acted as risk consultants, collecting data and analyzing alternatives for tricky decisions, such as a possible marriage or potential building location. The Asipu used religious means to support their health risk assessments, but they also performed what we would call cost-benefit analysis.

Today, when people talk about health risk surveys , they're in the context of toxic substances or workplace chemicals. At Employee Wellness USA, we think management should be taking a complete approach to protecting their employees' health. If a company's greatest asset really is its people, then performing health risk assessments of their health and fitness is tantamount, whether the health threat is an industrial poison, cancer, depression or obesity.
