Quaaludes (methaqualone) are tablets of a sedative barbituate -like drug. Originally synthesized by M.L. Gujiral, quaaludes derive their name from the marketing phrase "quiet interlude." Quaaludes have also been sold under the names Parest and Sopor.
In addition to its affects on alertness, quaaludes are often smoked to obtain a faster trace-like state. Unfortunately, some of the components in the tablets become hazardous when smoked, and as a result quaalude abusers often suffer from emphysema.
