Amphetamines (or "amfetamines") are a well-known stimulant. Known by the Adderall and Dexedrine brand names, amphetamines when abused cause nervousness, anxiety, hyperventilation, twitchy reflexes, insomnia, aggression, panic attacks and schizophrenic behavior.
Amphetamines were invented in 1887 by University of Berlin chemist Lazar Edeleanu. In the early twentieth century, several countries' militaries used amphetamines as a stimulant to keep soldiers and pilots awake, until the drug's addictive nature became clear. Amphetamines can be popular among ambitious employees who are seeking more energy. If you suspect amphetamine abuse at your organization, you may want to incorporate amphetamine testing in your corporate wellness program.
